Race for IIT Rajasthan between four cities
Rajasthan government finally looking for suitable locations for the four proposed higher education institutes in Rajasthan, a high-power committee will visit all the six divisional headquarters in the state and a few districts. The committee will suggests possible sites:
1. IIT
2. IIM
3. Central university
4. World-class university in Rajasthan.
The committee headed by Vijay Shankar Vyas, former chairman of the Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur, will start its tour from Alwar on Tuesday from where it will proceed to other places in the state. The committee set-up by the state government includes L K Maheshwari, vice-chancellor, BITS, Pilani, Vishwananth Sinha, professor and advisor, LNMIT, and Parvindra Singh, principal secretary (higher) and technical education of Rajasthan.
The state government had set up the committee, even after experts had recommended that Jaipur or a location on the Jaipur-New Delhi highway would have been ideal for IIT, because of better connectivity. This however, was ignored by the Vasundhara Raje government, that cited unavailability of land in the state capital as a reason. Instead, it suggested Kota as an ideal location. Present chief minister Ashok Gehlot is now trying to take it to his home turf in Jodhpur. Contrary to views of politicians, experts still insist that Jaipur is the best location. This will also help in inviting visiting faculty, including teachers from outside India. The four cities in race of IIT are Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota and Udaipur. Ashok gehlot will use his full power to take it to his home at Jodhpur, but approapriate place is Jaipur.
